Programming + FOH/BOH

A large part of having a positive relationship between programming and FOH is encouraging their input in the planning phase of the programming calendar (starting a brainstorm 3+ months out).

  1. The FOH team can provide guidance on what type of programming to schedule or focus on based on the needs of house revenue:

    1. Activating little used spaces in the house

    2. Driving revenue on quieter days (i.e. Tuesday evenings have lower revenue than Thursday)

    3. Balancing the schedule so we keep consistency among the number of staff during each service

    4. Share information with programming about current member trends to inform the calendar

  2. The FOH teams are also vital to the following:

    1. Food and Beverage coordination during a program

    2. Menu writing for themed programming

    3. Beverage concepts for themed programming

    4. Sharing member feedback during/after a program

Programming and FOH Workflow

    • Tracking down menus

    • Ordering additional materials like plates, platters, etc.

    • Strive to plan farther out together so our internal teams are meeting the 15th of the month deadline for comms team

    • the run of show

    • staffing needs

    • set-up/breakdown talk through with all FOH managers to appropriately think through any challenges or questions ahead of the event

    • Identify FOH staff for programming event

    • Go through setup / breakdown

    • Go through timeline

    • Go through service protocols

    • Go through programming partner F&B credit/hospitality

    • Setup should be done by FOH staff with guidance from Programming Manager, especially with unfamiliar setups

    • Manager checks in with programming host and identifies staff

    • Depending on the program, the FOH manager can be a permanent presence or float to other areas

    • Service staff will need more supervision early on, and less as we gain more experience as a team

    • Introduce the performer / speaker / host

      • Programming manager or an FOH manager (if staffing allows)

    • Breakdown and flip the space for the next event/program or back to standard setting

    • Put away A/V equipment and have FOH manager check every time

    • At the end of the night, FOH manager to include programming notes in the daily log

      • Report on sales (even when taken a different day)

      • Report on attendance/check-ins
